Summer Lounge Berlin TXL 2024
50 Years of TXL
Project profile
The Summer Lounge 2024 takes place on September 5 on the grounds of the former Tegel Airport, bringing together reflection, exchange, and visions for the future in a special event. The occasion is the 50th anniversary of the airport’s opening as well as the launch of the exhibition “MATERIAL CULTURE BERLIN TXL 2024. A Building for the Future.”
Around 170 guests from politics, public administration, business, architecture, and urban development, along with companions and residents of the Urban Tech Republic, come together to honor the history of the site and gain new impulses for its transformation.
The program includes a guided tour of Terminal B with its architectural highlights, a keynote by Prof. Dr. Volkwin Marg, the architect of Tegel Airport, and a panel discussion with representatives from planning, architecture, and urban development. Central to the discussion are questions of identity and renewal, sustainability, and the social dimensions of change.
In her opening speech, Gudrun Sack, Managing Director of Tegel Projekt GmbH, emphasizes the importance of courage, optimism, and trust in advancing the development of a 500-hectare area into an innovative future location.
The Summer Lounge 2024 demonstrates how the architecture of Tegel Airport continues to inspire today, and the opportunities the Urban Tech Republic holds: as a place that preserves historical identity while creating space for new ideas and technologies.
