Opening of the Documentation Centre for Displacement, Expulsion and Reconciliation
Press conference and ceremony to mark a new place of remembrance and understanding
Project profile
This is Germany’s first place of learning and remembrance that puts the focus on forced migration in the past and present and opens it up for discussion in the spirit of reconciliation: the Flight, Expulsion, Reconciliation Documentation Centre at the former Anhalter Bahnhof station in Berlin.
The centre will be inaugurated in June 2021 in the presence of Federal Chancellor Angela Merkel, Minister of State for Culture Monika Grütters and other high-ranking guests from Germany and abroad. artecom has been commissioned to play a leading role in transforming the event into an internationally renowned spectacle.
The situation caused by the pandemic has made it necessary to reduce the number of people physically present at the ceremony as well as the press conference just a few days earlier to a small number. The foundation is following the recommendation made by artecom to organise both events in a hybrid format. The group tours of the exhibition that were originally planned will now be replaced by a pre-produced video tour. The aim is to convey a comprehensive impression of the spectacular interior architecture and the display of the Documentation Centre to the public on site and on the screens. artecom also uses a drone camera to capture the exceptional spatial choreography as authentically as possible.
A live experience at TV level – that’s what the ceremony is all about. Images from a total of five cameras in conjunction with a coordinated set, motion and lighting design guarantee the quality required. The renowned Nimrod Ensemble is providing the fitting artistic setting with chamber music works by Béla Bartók and Gustav Mahler.
