Opening ceremony for the inauguration of the Rügen Bridge
Germany is building bridges
Project profile
The new Rügen Bridge, measuring almost five kilometres in length and with a construction volume of 80 million euros, is the largest bridge in Germany to date. The Strelasund crossing opens the gateway to the Baltic Sea island and the Baltic neighbours. The bridge also characterises the cityscape of the Hanseatic city of Stralsund.
Some 300,000 people seize the unique opportunity to walk across the bridge and celebrate a three-day festival on both sides of the Sound, culminating in a multimedia staging of the structure.
