#KEINBERLINOHNEKULTUR (#NOBERLINWITHOUTCULTURE)

Record-breaking rbb art event on the tarmac in Tegel

Project profile

Where once machines took off to all regions of the world, radioeins and rbbKultur, together with artists, associations and institutions in Berlin, will send a clear signal to the world in September 2021: Cultural institutions were the first to shut their doors when the pandemic forced a lockdown – and they were the last to reopen. This must not happen again in Berlin. That’s why it can now be admired as an expansive work of art on the tarmac of Terminal A at Tegel Airport: Kein Berlin ohne Kultur! (No Berlin without culture!)
The intention of the XXL statement, which measures 400 metres in length, is to convey what art and culture mean for the city through non-verbal means. This is why the hashtag and the following twenty giant letters are initially drawn as outlines on the concrete. The areas created for colouring represent an invitation to those involved in the art and culture scene, but also to listeners of the two rbb station brands, to pick up a paint bucket and brush and get creative – in other words, to do precisely what has been impossible or only possible to a very limited extent for months.
The call for participation issued by radioeins and rbbKultur is being followed by museums, cinemas, theatres, concert halls and other cultural institutions, as well as organisations such as the CSD, the Berlin workshops for those with disabilities and the Alba Berlin basketball club. Everybody is asked to imaginatively fill one letter of the slogan with colour. What we have achieved exceeds all expectations: Not a single area of the 8,000 square metres remains concrete grey. And this in spite of adverse weather conditions. An impressive achievement leading to what is probably the biggest hashtag in the world.
artecom was able to provide active support for this magnificent project and a thank you goes out!
