Secure the future now

Commencement of collective bargaining live at IG Metall

Project profile

Safeguarding employment, shaping the future, boosting incomes: these are the goals that IG Metall is setting for collective bargaining in a number of industrial sectors at the start of the coronavirus crisis year 2021. It quickly becomes clear that the employers are putting up a massive blockade. Their reasoning is: The pandemic will not lead to any strikes. That they are completely wrong is something Germany’s largest single trade union wants to prove by organising a media event – and is relying on artecom’s in-depth expertise to make this happen. The concept for an interactive livestream event will be developed in close and trusting collaboration starting in January and will be broadcast on March 1st, 2021 entitled “Secure the future now. Commencement of collective bargaining live.” from the Executive Board headquarters in Frankfurt am Main. A resounding 80,000 metalworkers are participating online.

What are the six demands of IG Metall’s 2021 collective bargaining movement about? In which industrial sectors are negotiations taking place? Why is it so important right now to stand together and fight together? The programme, hosted by two professionals from IG Metall’s trade union educational campaign, provides unequivocal answers: There will be a total of eight programme windows with clips produced especially for the event, emotional statements and live reports offering a view of the situation in the operations on site. Silbermond, Dota and the Donots provide the musical highlights.

IG Metall’s request to offer its members regional action reports in seven district-specific streams posed a technical challenge for the production team. The ten-minute reports from all over the country are only received by the editorial team shortly before the start of the programme to ensure that they are up to date. Optimum planning means that everything can be integrated into the running programme to the second. This dramaturgical ploy can send another strong signal to employers: IG Metall is ready for action throughout Germany.
