Berlin tüt was (Berlin tackles plastic bags)
World environmental festival record
Project profile
Berliners consumed around 710,000 plastic bags every day in 2014. The convenient carrying aids still too often land not in the recycling container but in the incinerator or even in the countryside, where they pollute parks and waterways and harm animals and plants.
More than 3,000 visitors came together in September 2014 to demonstrate against the excessive consumption of plastic bags in the capital at the environmental festival organised by the Stiftung Naturschutz Berlin (Nature Conservation Foundation Berlin, SNB). They want to form a nine-kilometre-long chain of 30,000 disposable bags as part of a concerted campaign, thereby breaking the previous world record recognised by Guinness World Records for the longest plastic bag chain. The endeavour is a success: An impressive signal was sent out against the environmentally harmful throwaway product.
The artecom team is delighted to be able to support the campaign under the slogan Berlin tüt was (Berlin tackles plastic bags) organised by SNB, Deutsche Umwelthilfe ( Environmental Action Germany) and Berliner Stadtreinigung in several business areas.
