Berlin reads a book
"Marzahn mon amour"
Project profile
It’s a special moment: two people chatting and realising that they have read the same book. An exchange of thoughts, opinions and experiences begins, fuelled by a work of art.
This moment will become a permanent state for a week thanks to the Berlin liest ein Buch (Berlin Reads a Book) campaign, which will transform the entire city into a reading circle from May 16th to 23rd 2021 courtesy of radioeins (rbb Berlin-Brandenburg) and the Berlin regional branch of the German Library Association.
The book that’s set to become the talk of the city is Katja Oskamp’s “Marzahn, mon amour”. A book with stories of a pedicurist and her customers, told during the pedicure. Stories of happiness, of successes and failures, of beautiful and sad moments. The book becomes a panorama of Berlin’s recent history through the life stories told here – and a celebration of human interaction, storytelling and listening.
A number of analogue and digital events will be held throughout May to mark this project.
